The Applied Research Center (ARC) is a public policy, educational and research institute born from the community organizing tradition. Their work focuses on issues of race and social change.

ARC has taken significant steps forward with their online work recently including a feature-rich, dynamic site that is regularly updated with fresh content, a popular set of email lists as well as online advocacy and community building tools.

Visit ARC's new site here. Grab their new podcast here. See how ARC is using online tools to put pressure on the Govenator to make fair wages the law in CA here.

Eidolon Communications is a direct marketing and member communications consulting firm with clients ranging from the Human Rights Campaign to U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy.

I produced Eidolon's first step into online marketing: a website that will establish their identity, communicate their expertise and reach out to new clients.

The National Training and Information Center (NTIC) has been at the forefront of the fight to create strong, economically viable neighborhoods through their work with the Community Reinvestment Act and the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act. Their conference People + Money: Making it work in the Neighborhood brought together politicians, communtiy leaders, organizers and activists to develop new partnerships and look to the future. The guide to the conference on their site included online registration, a first for NTIC.

We Are All Suspects is a new book by Tram Nguyen that looks at immigrant communities and our post-9/11 domestic policies. A gutsy endeavor that sheds light on the fallout from the war on terror here in our own communities. The website promotes the book and provides a schedule for the author's speaking engagements and book signings. Read an excerpt from the book here. I highly recommend the book, which is available here.

Studentaidaction.com, a project of the PIRGs, is fighting federal legislation that would that would freeze student aid funding and make student loan repayment thousands of dollars more expensive. They are engaged in an email advocacy campaign and were looking for a way to gain more exposure amongst college students. Enter the Re-DEBT-corators, a flash animation campaign that's turning thousands of college kids into activists on the campaign to save student aid.

The Center for Third World Organizing (CTWO) asks the question "What if everyone were given a chance to elect the Leader of the Free World?" with an online poll on the presidential election targeted at people who cannot vote. The poll stored the data securely online and incorporated tools for analysis and downloading the data for further analysis. Three translations of the poll were published.

Grassroots Campaigns is a new organization that's raising money and energizing voters the old fashioned way - door to door. They launched an ambitious on-campus recruitment drive across the country to staff their field offices. With recruiters visiting schools nationwide, they sought a way to simplify the tracking of candidates from interview through hire. The solution: an online database that allows interviewers to enter candidates remotely through a web interface and gives central management the ability to easily coordinate the hiring process of more than a thousand candidates.

Update: a completely rebuilt web presence for Grassroots Campaigns featuring a custom content management system that allows staff from across the country to post articles to the site.

The Campaign Institute
is training a new generation to run and win electoral campaigns. They decided to pursue a viral flash email campaign to generate excitement around their training, "A Crash Course in Changing America," and recruit recent college grads. I teamed up with flash guru, Ben Conley, to produce an animated mini-movie that will get their message out to the next generation of electoral activists.

KIPP
schools are revolutionizing the way many are looking at the public education system. This innovative network of charter schools challenges kids with 6 day a week, 9 hour a day class schedules and the radical thought that hard work and determination can overcome most obstacles. The Kipp: Ascend School is one of the newest in their network and has ambitious plans to use the Internet to connect with students, parents, donors and the media. The first step is establishing a presence on the web...their recently launched site can be seen here.

Telefund is a leading phone fundraising and political outreach firm. Their clients include Amnesty International, Mother Jones Magazine, The Sierra Club and the Human Rights Campaign. I'm rebuilding Telefund's site to enable more effective online marketing and promote a more in-depth relationship with their online audience. Phase I of the rebuild updates the design and content (recently launched), while Phase II will look forward with additional functions targeted at staff recruitment and client relations.

Disclosure, the national newspaper of neighborhoods, reports on the work of grassroots activists in communities across the country. Their print edition is widely distributed and helps build the community of activists working on the neighborhood level. Working closely with the staff that manage the publication, I identified some key things that were keeping their online edition from reaching its potential. I rebuilt the site from the ground up to include a more intuitive look and a content management system that enables their staff to publish each new issue online. See the new site here.
